Barrington Johnson Lorains:
Converted 30 staff members from a paper based system to a fully
computerised system in 10 weeks with minimal disruption to managing
accounts such as Granada, Little Chef & Royal Armouries. Media
despatch module revolutionised the ad placement process.
Cheetham Bell: Core accounting
& job control modules saw this agency from a 4 man band to the
top ten NW agency it is today, handling accounts such as Manchester
United & Vimto.
Radford Advertising: Off
the shelf job control with purchase management but with the addition
of a bespoke traffic handling system.
Nickson Davies:
A time recording implementation for a large firm of quantity
surveyors.
Fichtner Engineering: A
job booking & documentation tracking system for a consulting
civil engineers running multiuser over geographically seperated
sites.
Project management, consultancy,
training & software development mentoring: Comtech - embedded
comms & web systems
Acted as project manager & software development team manager.
Responsible for all aspects (pre-sales technical input, proposals,
analysis, design, coding, testing, delivery, implementation, deployment)
of human interface software in embedded communications systems projects
as well as all personnel issues for team, implementation of technical
quality standards company wide (20 engineers) for ISO9001 &
TickIT systems, implementation of key skills training and core software
product development.
Pub monitoring:
Client is billion pound turnover supplier of drinks dispense
systems. Led project to build server side systems to collect, collate,
alarm & report on data from over 400 sensors in each pub every
five minutes. N-tier architecture to ensure availability, manage
the volume of data, analysis requests and web accesses. Roll out
to UK pub network ongoing.
Oil well monitoring: Sucessfully
leveraging pub monitoring components, applied to oil well heads.
Systems currently deployed in north Egypt and Aberdeen.
Gaming machine messaging:
Implemented system to relay fruit machine data back to the
games designers in secure & robust manner. Deployed around UK
and Germany.
Communications protocol: Designed
and created the new version of the embedded modules communications
protocol, improving speed, reliability, scalability and development
times. Patents pending.
Product development:
Manchester Insitute for Information
Delivery (MiiD)- online learning & interactive training systems
Acted as project manager & software development team manager.
Responsible for all aspects (pre-sales technical input, proposals,
analysis, design, coding, testing, delivery, implementation, deployment)
of web based learning systems.
The GO course: The largest online
training course in Europe with over 10,000 active students. We were
responsible for the technical infrastructure, project managed all
things technical & led the development staff that created the
systems that delivers the course over the web and runs the back
office. Used as a reference site by IBM for our early use of DB2
on Linux, presenting at IBM conferences in Europe.
KeySkills: Production of a general
purpose kit for the creation of online learning environments for
a consortium of nine further education colleges in the Greater Manchester
area. We oversaw the technical side of the project, was responsible
for the design of the kit to client requirements, managed the development
team, and delivered the training to the client.
Dept of Education, MMU: Requirements
from DfE meant that over 1300 questionnaires auditing ICT knowledge
had to be distributed, completed, returned and analysed in the first
week of a new intake of student teachers. We developed a web-based
tool to allow the department to create their own questionnaires,
which fed data back in to a database system for them to analyse.

Creation of the document handling system and integration in
to the main database system.

Bank Research Centre: A bespoke sample tracking and results
tracing system
Leek United Building Society
web presence: A small society currently taking over £1.4m
per quarter via its web presence, we are responsible for the technical
services that go in to achieving this.
Cardex: Project manager &
development team manager of a 50 user client server patient &
clinical management system at the Manchester Heart Centre at the
Manchester Royal Infirmary. This system is ranked at functionality
level 5 out of a 6 point scale (most at level 3).
InTouch: Local authority focused
contact & business intelligence system using a highly graphical
user interface on a classic client server architecture, linked to
a web based user interface for intranet & extranet access. I
was responsible for managing the development to client specification
and for the coding of the web search bots linking data in the system
to web resources.
Phillips Power Semiconductors: Evaluation
of existing customer service system for migration to web based interface
& training of internal development staff on web based development
tools.
